About
I'm Maxwell Young, a design engineer based in Auckland, New Zealand. I work at Silk, a platform for blogging, private archives, and multimedia moodboards, where I look after the mobile app across iOS and Android.
On the side I run ninetynine.digital, a one-person studio for independent apps and client work. I also release music as Maxwell Young.
The work I publish spans mobile product leadership, shipped iOS apps, research tooling, and image-led client sites. Across all of it I care about the same things: a clear model, an interface that shows it honestly, and checking the result where people actually use it.
How I work
I build in small, checkable steps: explicit interaction states, accessible defaults, and enough tests or instrumentation to know whether a change held up. I'd rather ship a narrow thing that works than a broad demo that doesn't.
The strongest examples are in selected work and the resume; experimental motion and interface studies live in the lab.
